饺子 Dumplings

The dumpling is a popular traditional food with minced meat and finely chopped vegetables wrapped into a piece of thin and elastic dough piece, make them look like ingots. Popular meat fillings include ground pork, ground beef, ground chicken, shrimp and many other delicacies.

Dumpling filings depending on personal tastes and region. In North China, dumplings are commonly eaten with a dipping sauce made of vinegar and chili oil or paste, and occasionally with some soy sauce added in.

Dumplings are usually boiled or steamed as a traditional dish eaten on Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve, the evening before Chinese New Year. All family members may make and eat dumplings together.
